What causes stretch marks?

Stretch marks are caused by your skin suddenly stretching before it was ready to, resulting in lines on your skin that resemble the appearance of faint scars. This is commonly a result of pregnancy or rapid weight gain, where the skin doesn’t have enough time to prepare for skin stretching.
